Seeking Jesus
The Lord wants us to be lovers of His. He says that He has created us that we should be lovers of His. He wanted us to be, and He has made us for that distinct and express purpose. We are willing to go to bible school to learn about the Bible. We are willing to go some place to find out something about the spiritual life. And there are some of us who are willing to go to Africa or India or China to do something for God. And there are people who will work very hard, visiting the sick, and helping to take care of the poor. Oh, there are so many things to be done and people are willing to do these things. But there is a call that says, Seek ye the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near.” And how much the Lord wants us to do that! And we know that other things like giving money and going to prayers and being in meeting, and being pledged for missionary endeavor—that all of these things are worthwhile things, and they should be looked after, are in the will of God. But the great thing that we were born for, the great thing that we were called to, the great thing that we were brought into the world for, is to seek the Lord while He may be found, and to call upon Him while He is near.
Oh, that we might know Him! Oh, that we might be filled with His fullness! Oh, that it might be “no more I, but Christ that liveth in me.” Seek ye the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near.
It is such a wonderful thing to have a tongue with which you may speak to the Lord. It is such a wonderful thing to be able to say, “Oh, Lord, I want to know you. I want to get acquainted with you.” It is about the most wonderful blessing there is in the Christian life, to be able to speak to God, to be able to use your tongue to tell Him that you want to know Him, that you want to get acquainted with Him. It’s a wonderful thing to think that we have at least some time left—how much, we don’t know because we can tell that the shadows of the setting sun are falling across the little span of our life—but it seems as if there’s a little time left. There’s a minute left, anyway, and in that minute you could say, “Jesus, I want to know you.” Would you like to use the minute that you have just now and in that minute, say in your heart, “Jesus, I want to know you better”? What a valuable minute—and now you know Him better. Isn’t that wonderful?
In a message the Lord gave one time, He said that every time anyone said to Him that he wanted to know Him better, that He put out His hand to make that person know Him better. If we were just like we ought to be, we would say that when we are waiting at the telephone: “Jesus, I want to know You better.” and then, while we are sitting at the table, waiting for the hostess to decide who should say grace, we can be saying grace in our heart by being gracious, and saying, “Jesus, I want to know You better.” Then, when the doorbell rings, when we are going to the door to welcome a guest, all the way to the door we can be saying, “Jesus, I want to know You better,” and by the time we get to the door, we will know Him so much better. Oh, it is such a wonderful thing to seek for God, to want to be filled with His fullness.
